Media Council brings proceedings for surreptitious commercial communication

hu

At its 9 June meeting, the Media Council of the National Media and Infocommunications Authority (NMHH) brought proceedings for the publication of surreptitious commercial communication. The Council also adopted the 2025 report analysing social diversity in news programmes in Hungary.

The Media Council examined the article „A biztonság mindenkinek jár – interjú Csalami János biztonságtechnikai szakértővel” (Security for Everyone – An Interview with Security Expert János Csalami), published in the issue 1 of volume 36 of “TÓALMÁSI FIGYELŐ”, a print medium published by the Municipality of Tóalmás, in terms of compliance with the provision prohibiting the publication of surreptitious commercial communication. As the article contained a significant amount of information of an advertising nature, the Council brought proceedings against the newspaper’s publisher.

The Media Council also brought proceedings against two radio and seven audiovisual media service providers to determine whether they had complied with their obligation to submit the monthly reports necessary for monitoring music and programming quotas.

The Council adopted the 2025 report analysing social diversity in news programs in Hungary, which looked at the prime-time news programmes of seven media outlets with the largest audiences in Hungary. The analysis found that the representation of social groups and ethnic minorities followed a similar pattern to previous years, with well-known organisations and figures featuring prominently in the programmes considered. The study is available at nmhh.hu.
