Media Council levies fine for surreptitious advertising

The Media Council of the National Media and Infocommunications Authority (NMHH) brought proceedings against a radio and a television media service provider. In another case, the Board imposed a fine for surreptitious advertising.

The Media Council found that MAMBÓ RÁDIÓ Kft. violated the statutory provisions prohibiting the broadcasting of surreptitious commercial communications on 24 occasions through 100.9 RÁDIÓ 1, a local commercial linear radio media service it operates on 100.9 MHz Villány, by broadcasting information for advertising purposes in a sponsorship message between 2 and 8 March 2026. The Council imposed a HUF 50,000 fine on the media service provider for this violation.

The Media Council brought proceedings against Duna Médiaszolgáltató Nonprofit Zrt. for the programme “Jó reggelt, Magyarország!” (Good Morning Hungary!) that aired on Kossuth Rádió on 7 April 2026 from 6.17 a.m. as a statement made by one of the guests on the programme may have violated statutory provisions on respect for human dignity and the prohibition of broadcasting media content liable to cause discrimination. On the programme, singer János Petrás called TISZA Party supporters “scum”.

In relation to the age rating of the film “Due Date” that aired on the linear media service RTL on 4 April 2026 from 1.41 p.m., the Council also brought proceedings against M-RTL Zrt. to determine whether the media service provider violated the classification provisions when broadcasting the film.
