Content that is deemed illegal or otherwise harmful may be reported by any user through the social media site’s dedicated interface. The service provider may decide to remove the content, restrict access to it, or may leave it unchanged.
In the event of an alleged infringement of the DSA by a platform, users may request the President of the Authority to conduct proceedings; however, the President does not have a content moderation responsibility with respect to decisions on illegal content made by Facebook or other social media providers established outside Hungary.
The President investigates the complaints received and, in the case of platform providers established in another Member State, forwards them to the competent national authority of the Member State in question.
Another important tool for creating a safe online space is the Internet Hotline (IH), a legal helpline operated by the Office of the NMHH, which was granted trusted flagger status in October 2024. Users may contact the Internet Hotline to report online content that is unlawful or harmful to minors. The IH aims to make our online environment safer and to handle reports of online content.
In addition to supervision, the Authority also places a strong emphasis on digital literacy. The onlineplatformok.hu website also serves as an official information platform and knowledge base, where analyses and articles help users navigate the regulatory issues of the digital world, support the conscious use of online platforms, and help users recognise risks.
In the field of online finance and digital security, the NMHH actively supports users in avoiding phishing and online fraud through its efforts to raise awareness, as well as through its research and informational materials, thereby contributing to the removal of harmful content.
With the participation of the NMHH, the “CyberShield” (KiberPajzs) cooperation aims to focus on online user awareness and the importance of the basics of digital security, informing customers and users about the dangers in the online space so that they can manage their finances with due caution across various digital devices and channels.
A good internet connection is essential for participation in the digital world, including for the simplest everyday activities (e.g. watching videos, listening to music on online platforms, using streaming services).
The Authority’s free speed metering solution at szelessav.net allows users to check the speed of their internet connection. In addition, we are also trying to help provide users with IT and technical advice to improve the quality of their internet connection.
