Media Council condemns public service media provider
The Media Council of the National Media and Infocommunications Authority (NMHH) imposed a penalty on the public service media provider for social advertising related to the National Consultation. It also decided on calls for tenders for the use of opportunities to provide radio media services.
By displaying a “National Consultation” graphic on public service television channels (M1, M2, M4 Sport, M5, Duna and Duna World) from 1 November to 7 December 2025, Duna Médiaszolgáltató Nonprofit Zrt. had persistently violated the statutory regulations on showing social advertisements and the way such advertisements are distinguished from other media content; therefore, the Council imposed a fine of HUF 1,800,000 on the media service provider and a HUF 25,000 fine on its executive for repeated violations.
The Media Council also announced the results of calls for tenders for the use of opportunities to provide radio media services. The right to use the Hatvan 87.9 MHz frequency for community media services was awarded to FM 4 Rádió Kft., the only valid tenderer, while the call for tenders for the commercial use of the Nyíregyháza 103.9 MHz frequency was won by the current right-holder, Best Radio Kft., which was incidentally the only tenderer.
The Council regularly monitors media service providers’ compliance with their obligations to report on broadcasting quotas. At the end of the latest monitoring cycle, the Media Council established that three media service providers, namely KUN-MÉDIA Kft. with its small community radio service ‘KARCAG FM’, TELIN Nonprofit Kft. with its linear audiovisual media service ‘egyetem tv’ and Pro-M Műsorszóró Infrastruktúra Kft. with its on-demand audiovisual media service, had breached their reporting obligations; as a result, the Council imposed fines on them.
The latest documents will become public after the necessary authentication and administrative lead time has lapsed.
