New proceedings against the “Balázsék” show

Published: 19 February 2026

The Media Council of the National Media and Infocommunications Authority (NMHH) has initiated proceedings against Radio Plus Kft. for a broadcast by the “Balázsék” show, which may have violated the legal requirement to respect human dignity.

The Media Council has received two notifications from citizens regarding the 9 December 2025 broadcast of “Balázsék” on Rádió 1. The programme used pejorative remarks and insulting language about older people, especially women of a more mature age. These acts may have violated the legal requirement of respect for human dignity, prompting the Media Council to initiate proceedings against Radio Plus Kft., the media service provider of Rádió 1.

Acting upon another notification, the Board examined the programmes “Csillag születik” [A Star is Born] broadcast on RTL TV channel on 9 November 2025 at 19:45 and 16 November 2025 at 19:45 and 21:50. The Media Council concluded that the classification of the first two programmes under age category III (not recommended for children under twelve) and the third programme in age category IV (not recommended for children under sixteen), and the time of broadcasting were all appropriate, and did therefore not initiate proceedings against the media service provider.

The Council investigated advertisement loudness following a complaint about a commercial for hazelnut spread aired by the TV2 permanent media service on 20 December 2025. The regulatory review did not reveal any violation of the legal provision on the volume of commercial advertisements; therefore, the Media Council did not initiate proceedings against the media service provider.
