Maintaining the equal opportunity of the hearing impaired
NMHH pays special attention to maintaining equal opportunity to all and, within context, it continuously monitors if television stations comply with their regulatory requirements pertaining to accessibility.
Pursuant to the Media Act, public service audiovisual media service providers and those with substantial influence (TV2, TRLK Klub, Duna Médiaszolgáltató Zrt.) are required to broadcast all public announcements, political advertisements, news programmes, political information programme and programmes on people with disabilities with provisions to support those with hearing disability. In addition, subtitles or sign interpreters are required for films, games and programmes with public service purposes. Since 2015, these media service providers have had the obligation to broadcast all of the above programmes in an accessible manner. Subtitles are required to be in sync with the audio and have to accurately reflect the audible information.
