Klubrádió has a seven-year agreement on the 95.3 MHz commercial Budapest frequency.

Since assuming her position as president of the NMHH and chairperson of the Media Council, Dr. Monika Karas has reviewed all cases calling for an executive decision, including the issue of the agreement on the 92.9 MHz Budapest community frequency.

The rules restrict an owner from holding multiple frequencies within one coverage area, so the Media Council’s chairperson requested the Office of the NMHH to review the legal options available based on legal precedents and effective media governance rules enabling a smooth transition of Klubrádió to the new spectrum.

At its Wednesday meeting the Media Council came to the decision based on the Office’s proposal to open ex officio proceedings to convert Klubrádió’s broadcasting agreement for the 92.9 MHz Budapest frequency into an administrative contract. The Media Council will simultaneously take all necessary steps to ensure the recognition of the radio as a community media broadcaster, enabling the waiver of spectrum fees.

The basic condition for using the community spectrum is a smooth transition to the new frequency, based on a concerted effort between Klubrádió, the Media Council and the Office of the NMHH. Another condition is the submission by the company operating the radio of the documents and declarations required under legislation for declaring Klubrádió a community radio, and the final suspension of broadcasting on the 95.3 MHz frequency simultaneously to the switchover.
