On Tuesday, the Council of the European Union adopted a regulation suspending the broadcasts of Russia Today (RT) and Sputnik media services in all Member States.

According to the reasoning of the decision, Russia is carrying out a continuous campaign of disinformation regarding its war on Ukraine.

The regulation adopted on 1 March concerns the broadcasts of RT and Sputnik on all platforms, via television and online as well, service providers must make these unavailable in the entire territory of the European Union, thus in Hungary too.

According to the records of the National Media and Infocommunications Authority, there is only one service provider in Hungary who offers RT in its list of channels.

The provider was called on to cancel the service. The EU ban pertains to internet service providers as well, compliance to the regulation is continuously examined by the National Media and Infocommunications Authority.
