Number Portability

hu

Section 150 of Act C of 2003 on Electronic Communications provides that in the case of number-based interpersonal communications services, subscribers have the right to keep their telephone number when changing service providers.

Established for the purpose of ensuring the feasibility of number portability, The Central Reference Database (CRDB) for number portability is responsible for collecting all carried numbers and related call routing information related, and making them available to service providers.

NMHH Decree 23/2020 (XII. 21.) on the rules of number portability and switching providers states that the CRDB shall be operated by the Authority. The Decree also sets out the conditions and procedures for cooperation between the CRDB and service providers, as well as the requirements for accessing the database.

CRDB helpdesk

The CRDB (KRA in hungarian) helpdesk provides information and technical support to service providers regarding access to the CRDB, number portability, and the operation of the database. In addition, it holds consultations with service providers regarding any developments or changes to the CRDB. Where appropriate, the CRDB helpdesk may carry out portability operations on behalf of the service provider, if the service provider is temporarily unable to access the database.

Administrative matters concerning registration and provider data, as well as port orders may be handled by a contact person appointed by the provider.

Ported number statistics

Based on data from the Central Reference Database (CRDB) for number portability, the Authority publishes monthly statistics on the numbers ported between operators, by number type. It also publishes the numbers carried within an operator’s network, many of which are numbers ported to an IP-based network, which uses a different technology.
