North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO)
NATO is a political-military alliance. Its political objectives are to maintain common peace and security, promote stability and prosperity, and preserve democracy, individual freedom, and the rule of law. Its military principles are individual and collective defense, crisis management, and cooperative security.
The NATO founding treaty, the North Atlantic Treaty, was signed by 12 countries in 1949 and currently has 32 members. Hungary became a NATO partner in 1994 and then a full member following its accession to NATO on March 12, 1999, which was announced by Act I of 1999. NMHH experts actively participate in the work of the organization.
At the Vilnius Summit in July 2023, the allies adopted the NATO Digital Transformation Implementation Strategy, which reinforces the Alliance's robust operational capabilities in land, air, sea, cyberspace, and space. In december 2023, the North Atlantic Council approved the renaming of the former C3 Board to the Digital Policy Committee to better reflect the board's renewed remit and vision for the digital age.
The Digital Policy Committee is responsible for providing policy and technical advice on digital strategy and capabilities, communications and information systems (CIS), cyber defense, data standardization, digital interoperability, and relevant emerging and disruptive technologies.
The Digital Policy Committee consists of high-level national representatives from allied countries, representatives from NATO Strategic Commands, and delegates from other NATO committees and bodies related to the Committee's policy remit. NMHH staff represent national civil and military interests in close cooperation with the Hungarian Armed Forces.
