European Telecommunications Satellite Organization (Eutelsat)

hu

The original purpose of EUTELSAT was to provide the space segment necessary for international public telecommunications services in Europe. The organization was restructured in 2001, and EUTELSAT IGO now oversees the use of common radio frequencies and satellite orbital positions allocated to member states by the ITU, and ensures the implementation of fundamental principles (public service, universal service provision, operation of a satellite system covering Europe, nondiscrimination, fair competition).

The European Telecommunications Satellite Organization (EUTELSAT) was founded in 1977 by 17 European CEPT (European Conference of Postal and Telecommunications Administrations) member states. It currently has 49 member states. Hungary joined the organization on October 21, 1993, and the NMHH has been representing it since 2014.

The General Assembly has established an advisory body to support the work of the organization and the Executive Secretary, whose members are representatives of member states elected by the General Assembly. The advisory body elects its own chair from among its members.
