Eastern Partnership Electronic Communications Regulators Network (EaPeReg)
The EaPeReg network consists of experts from the communications authorities of the Eastern Partnership countries (Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, the Republic of Moldova, and Ukraine) and EU Member States, as well as representatives of the European Commission. The members of the network have been holding regular expert consultations on electronic communications issues since 2010, but it was in 2012 that a cooperation agreement was signed in Moldova, on the basis of which the organization officially operates as an independent platform.
The main objective of the network is to contribute to the economic and social development of the EU's Eastern Partnership countries by supporting the convergence of their electronic communications markets within the framework of effective, long-term cooperation.
With the rise of knowledge-based societies, the importance of electronic communications has also grown significantly in the Eastern Partnership region. As the electronic communications markets and regulatory policies of the individual partnership countries differ greatly, their regulatory authorities have recognized that harmonizing the basic principles of their regulatory frameworks can increase the predictability of regulatory decisions. Reform of the sector is essential for the provision of universal, affordable, high-quality services that will contribute to future economic growth. These efforts will also have a positive impact on regional sectoral investment. Cooperation in the field of the information society is of paramount importance for sustainable economic and social development, which is why it is a priority in the European Neighbourhood Policy Action Plans. EaPeReg, both at regional level and in the context of cooperation with the European Union, is proving to be an effective tool for achieving the above objectives.
The network's presidency duties are performed in parallel by an EU Member State and a partnership authority and co-ministry within the organization. The NMHH has been participating in the organization's activities since 2014.
