Media Council brings product placement proceedings
The Media Council of the National Media and Infocommunications Authority (NMHH) examined compliance with classification provisions in relation to several programmes. It initiated proceedings against one media service provider to determine whether the programme under investigation complied with the statutory requirements on product placement.
For 2025, on-demand media service providers subject to programme quota obligation had to report the data necessary to verify compliance with programming quota requirements to the Media Council by 31 January 2026. Only one of the media service providers subject to the obligation, Pro-M Műsorszóró Infrastruktúra Kft., was found to be in breach of the data reporting obligation with regard to its media service ‘MinDig TV Plusz - on-demand content’. Consequently, the Media Council brought proceedings against this media service provider.
The Media Council also initiated proceedings against ATV Zrt. based on a citizen’s complaint for the alleged violation by ATV of the statutory provisions on product placement by broadcasting the programme ‘Start+’ on 17 November 2025 at 8.26 a.m.
It examined six further programmes, including the broadcast of the New Year’s concert of the Vienna Philharmonic, for compliance with classification provisions, also on the basis of complaints, but found no infringement.
