Regarding the auction procedure announced for the entitlements of frequency use related to the 900 MHz and 1800 MHz frequency bands, the National Media and Infocommunications Authority (NMHH) has registered Telekom, Telenor and Vodafone in the auction register on 17th December. The proceedings shall continue with the bidding phase, which is expected to take place early next year.

On 10 November, three mobile operators, Magyar Telekom Nyrt., Telenor Hungary Zrt. and Vodafone Hungary Zrt., submitted applications for the auction of the frequency bands. Pursuant to the results of the formal validity checks, on 17th December, the NMHH registered all three applicants in the auction register [LINK]. The “live” bidding will be preceded by a trial auction, which is expected to take place early next year. Subsequent to the auction, the NMHH will inform the public on which operator acquired the frequencies and at what price.

The entitlement of frequency use for the mobile operators currently providing services on the 900 MHz and 1800 MHz frequency bands will expire on 7 April and 8 April 2022, respectively. The entitlements acquired through the auction will be valid from this date onwards for a period of fifteen years, until 9 April 2037 and may be renewed for an additional five years.
