Publication of auction documents in the 3400-3800 MHz frequency band

Published: 11 April 2016

The National Media and Infocommunications Authority (NMIA) has published the auction documentation pertaining to the utilisation of the frequency use entitlements that may be acquired in the 3400-3800 MHz frequency band. Applications to participate may be filed between 1:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. on 2 May 2016.

There is steadily growing demand for broadband services, therefore the utilisation of frequency bands – that are not used at present or are used for other purposes, but are suitable for such services – is crucially important for the owner of such frequencies, that is the Hungarian state. The sale of frequency bands becoming available upon the expiry of their respective licences as well as those not used at present, is expected to step up competition in the Hungarian market, accelerate the expansion of penetration and in areas of intensive use and promote the provision of high capacity, innovative, high quality electronic communications services.

Winning bidders in the auction will be entitled to use the frequencies until 2034. After consultations with telecommunications service providers as its strategic partners and in consideration of their constructive comments, the NMIA published on 11 April 2016 the auction documentation concerning the utilisation of the 3400-3800 MHz frequency band. Prospective bidders may file their applications to participate in the auction procedure between 1:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. on 2 May 2016 at the NMIA headquarters at 1015 Budapest, I. Ostrom u. 23-25. The complete auction documentation may now be downloaded under “Related documents”. The auction procedure shall be conduced in the Hungarian language but in order to provide those interested in the procedure with extensive information the NMIA releases an English version of the auction documentation as well.
