Development of Digital Public Services Receives a Boost

NMHH announcing a tender for the available lot in the 450 MHz band

The digital economy is among the key propellants of the national economy. Nowadays there is an ever greater number of commercial, financial, educational and cultural services that are built with online devices in mind — devices whose use requires mobile data access to be as widespread as possible, for the general population as much as for enterprises.

Given their importance to society, digital public services are assigned priority status among other online services and, as a result, their operation calls for adequate infrastructure, advanced technologies and sufficient spectrum allocation.

The National Media and Infocommunications Authority is therefore announcing a tender for a currently unused block in the 450 MHz frequency band. Issued a license for a term of 10 years, the winning bidder will be tasked primarily with the development of digital public services.

The frequencies in concern may be used to improve the efficiency of electronic road toll systems while also allowing for district and village-level government offices to be connected into a nationwide digital network.

Data access via this frequency band could contribute to reinforcing the electronic house arrest system, facilitate communication for auxiliary law enforcement and emergency services, and promote the development of such far-reaching services as the birth certification system, remote monitoring or urban traffic information networks.

Moreover, the frequency band is perfectly suitable for the deployment of smart metering systems and machine-to-machine (M2M) communications networks.

The tender price for the available frequency lot is HUF 150 million. The frequency usage fee payable by the winning bidder is HUF 132 million for the first four years and HUF 265 million per year thereafter.
