Statement of position by the Chairman of the National Media and Infocommunications Authority on editorial responsibility and the publication of fake news in response to press requests for such a statement
The relentless spread of spurious and untrue information and fake news may cause far-reaching economic, political and social damage globally. We all have a shared interest and responsibility to prevent this damage.
The Media Council has no competence over street posters
The National Media and Infocommunications Authority, as well as the Media Council, has competence only to conduct any kind of proceedings over advertisements appearing in media content; therefore, it is unable to consider the merits of any request concerning posters submitted by the Párbeszéd (Dialogue) Party, the Együtt (Together) Party or any other organisation or individual. As media regulation does not apply to posters, the Media Council is not in a position to assess the legality of poster campaigns.
