The NMHH is extending the preparation deadline for participants of the 900 MHz frequency auction

Published: 7 October 2011

Taking into account the request of several telecommunications service providers expressing interest in the 900 MHz frequency auction, the National Media and Infocommunications Authority (NMHH) has modified the application deadline from 20 October to 8 December 2011.

On 4 August, the Office of the National Media and Infocommunications Authority announced a two-round international auction for acquiring the rights of use of frequency related to the provision of GSM-, IMT/UMTS, WiMAX- and LTE- mobile telecommunications services in the 900 MHz band.

On 27 September, the NMHH held a technical consultation for potential participants having purchased the auction documentation. The Authority is continuously answering the questions expressed at the consultation in writing, in compliance with the auction documentation.

In the course of the procedure, several telecommunications service providers showing interest in participating expressed the need for a longer preparation period than the one provided by the previous documentation to make a definite decision on participation and to prepare the business plan forming the basis of their application.

The Authority has considered the requests and arguments aimed at the modification of the deadline and has decided on the extension thereof, in compliance with the framework defined in the relevant legislation. Accordingly, the application deadline has been modified from 20 October to 8 December 2011. The procedure's planned agenda has also changed accordingly, specified in detail in the auction documentation.

The NMHH still considers as its main objective to ensure comprehensive transparency in the course of the auction procedure, and to ensure that the frequencies up for offer are utilised in the most beneficial manner.

In the course of the modification of the documentation, the Office of the NMHH also took into account the new rules set out under NMHH Decree 4/2011 (X. 6.) on the rules of auction and tender for the acquisition of rights of use of frequency, having entered into force on 7 October 2011.
