Study Visit to the Finnish Hotline
At the end of September, the colleagues of the Internet Hotline took part in a special professional study visit in Helsinki, where they had the opportunity to gain firsthand experience of how the Finnish hotline operates.
The Finnish hotline is run by Save the Children Finland (Pelastakaa Lapset ry), an organization that has been working to protect children's rights for over a century and plays a key role in promoting children’s online safety. Its hotline service is one of the main pillars of this work.
During the two-day meeting, both hotlines presented their operations in detail, including their practices for handling reports, as well as additional activities that contribute to the protection of children.
While no two hotlines in the world operate exactly the same way, they all share a common goal:
- to create an online space where children can safely engage in digital communication, free from sexual abuse.
The Finnish colleagues also introduced their sex education program developed for local schools, which supports children's healthy body awareness, sexual development, and digital safety in a modern and age-appropriate way. The program was particularly inspiring for the professionals of the Internet Hotline, who are actively seeking effective best practices in the field of prevention.
These two days brought valuable professional experience, new ideas, and a great deal of inspiration—reinforcing the belief of the Internet Hotline that protecting children online can only be achieved through joint efforts and international cooperation.
