Internet Hotline helps with a downloadable information package

Published: 7 May 2025

The Internet Hotline (IH), the legal assistance service of the National Media and Infocommunications Authority (NMHH) operating since 2011, provides clear information about its operation, which can also be placed on school websites, to help education institutions fulfil their obligation of providing information under the Public Education Act.

Since July 2024, public education institutions must ensure that pupils and their relatives can find the contact details of the Internet Hotline, the online information and assistance service operated by the NMHH. Information on this must be displayed in a clearly visible place in schools, but the legislation also allows additional information to be provided.

The NMHH, with the assistance of the Klebelsberg Centre, has been distributing information posters with the contact details of the IH to the institutions run by the school district centres before the launching of the school year in September. The Authority aims to promote the posters in other institutions, and is therefore expanding its cooperation. As a result, the National Office of Vocational Education and Training and Adult Learning has already received the posters.

The IH wants to provide effective assistance to as many complainants as possible who come across infringing or offensive content, so it has put together an easy-to-understand information package that can be placed on institutional websites and other digital platforms to help children, parents and teachers become more familiar with the hotline’s work. The short leaflet also tells you how to file a report and what exactly happens once it is received.

It was important that children understood exactly what kind of problems they could contact the IH with and what help they could get to solve these problems, thus the authority also prepared the information in a “child-friendly language”. The IH is also sensitive to reports submitted by children, creating a reassuring and trusting atmosphere for them, as reflected also in the document.

The information package can be downloaded from the IH’s website (https://english.nmhh.hu/internethotline/downloads) at any time and in an unlimited number of copies. The package includes posters in schools in pdf format and 1pdf document of each with information for both adults and children.

Parents and teachers who would like to request a printed poster for their institution can do so by sending an e-mail to the following address: plakat@internethotline.hu.
