Sale of 5G frequencies: procedure of second instance completed

Published: 28 November 2019

After Digi Communications N.V. had submitted an appeal against the decision, the President of the National Media and Infocommunications Authority (NMHH) upheld the result of the formal review of the sale of 5G frequencies within the procedure of second instance. The company may seek further legal remedies before the court.

The NMHH launched the procedure to sell usage rights for the 700 MHz, 2100 MHz, 2600 MHz and 3600 MHz frequency bands this past summer. Four mobile operators have applied for the auction on 8 August and after the formal review the Authority entered three operators – Magyar Telekom Nyrt., Telenor Magyarország Zrt. and Vodafone Magyarország Mobil Távközlési Zrt. – in the auction register. Subsequently, Digi Communications N.V. appealed against the decision of the NMHH, and in its order published on 27 November the authority of second instance upheld the result of the formal review. The communications service provider may seek legal remedy before the court.
