Market shares based on the number of landline phone connections between 31 December 2006 and 31 December 2015

In the landline telephony market, the continuous decrease in subscription numbers until 2011 slowed down then stopped and the market has been in a state close to stagnation since 2012.

Magyar Telekom Nyrt. remain the largest player in the landline telephony market, although its market share decreased to 54% by the end of 2015, having been on the decline for several years. Providing voice-over-IP services through its predominantly cable network, UPC Kft. managed to further increase its market share, which has been growing in recent years, resulting in the operator controlling more than 16% of the market in terms of subscription numbers by the end of 2015. Operating predominantly PSTN voice channels, Invitel Zrt.’s share significantly dropped in 2015 resulting in Digi Kft., providing voice-over-IP services similar to those of UPC Kft., outperforming Invitel with a 12.5% market share by the end of 2015 and becoming the third largest player in the voice telephony market.
