Magyar Posta Zrt. has been designated to provide universal postal services within the territory of Hungary until 31 December 2020. Magyar Posta is active in all three categories of postal services, meaning that, in addition to universal service, it conducts operations subject to licence and declaration, and provides services other than postal services.

Postal services represent in the order of 50% of the total revenue of the universal service provider. This share was 51.68% in 2011 and grew to 52.68% by 2014. Both postal and other revenues saw a moderate increase over the past years, with an average annual growth of 1.05% and 4.45, respectively.
