In the landline telephony market, the continuous decrease in subscription numbers until 2011 slowed down then stopped and the market has been in a state close to stagnation since 2012.
Magyar Telekom Nyrt. remain the largest player in the landline telephony market, although its market share decreased to 54% by the end of 2015, having been on the decline for several years. Providing voice-over-IP services through its predominantly cable network, UPC Kft. managed to further increase its market share, which has been growing in recent years, resulting in the operator controlling more than 16% of the market in terms of subscription numbers by the end of 2015. Operating predominantly PSTN voice channels, Invitel Zrt.’s share significantly dropped in 2015 resulting in Digi Kft., providing voice-over-IP services similar to those of UPC Kft., outperforming Invitel with a 12.5% market share by the end of 2015 and becoming the third largest player in the voice telephony market.
