The National Media and Infocommunications Authority (NMHH) is initiating a tender procedure to measure the listenership of Hungarian radio stations. In preparation of the complex measurement procedure, NMHH calls upon market players and stakeholders to provide their opinions on the expert material.

Radio listenership measurement, on the one hand, offers to provide the information required for the operation of the authority. On the other hand, it will offer free access to listenership statistics for radio market players. The data obtained in the course of listenership measurement will play an important part in the decisions and plans for radio programming, serve as a basis for accurate monitoring of media market processes and will also prove indispensable each year to identify media service providers with significant influence. Introducing the service may stimulate the sector and make the market more transparent.

The Authority would like to explore the aspects of all stakeholders when developing the methodology for listenership measurement. For this reason, NMHH has prepared an expert background material and methodological proposal and send those to the stakeholders to allow them to formulate their opinions and present those at a professional consultation session scheduled for 14 July. According to the proposal, any party could have free access to the basic data via the NMHH website. However, to respect the market interests of service providers, queries pertaining to target groups and time slots would be available only to registered users.

Based on the methodology formulated as a result of the consultation, the Authority would select the research company conducting the measurements in a public tender. NMHH hopes to complete the first measurement this year.
