NMHH’s Fifth New Media Culture Creative Lab Opens in Szeged

Szeged has become the fifth site where culture and media dreams come true. In addition to three other universities in Budapest and one in Pécs already participating in the project, the University of Szeged has opened a New Media Culture Creative Lab. The equipment of the state-of-the-art new media lab was entirely financed by the National Media and Infocummunications Authority (NMHH).

Mónika Karas, President of NMHH stressed at the opening ceremony that the Authority ceremony, that the purpose of the creative media lab is designed to provide an opportunity for media students and instructors to realise their creative potential, talents and dreams in a learning environment. Ms. Karas added that they also wanted to offer the best possible tools for the young students of the present to become masters of the digital future.

Mihály Szajbély, Dean of the Faculty of Arts of the University of Szeged highlighted the importance of replacing the older PC computers with new Macintosh and Apple units, which they were all very eager to start using. The lab offers practical knowledge to the students of the Department of Communication and Media Studies making them competitive in the job market. Dr. Szajbély thanked NMHH for making it possible for his colleagues and students to work with state-of-the-art equipment.

Featuring cutting edge technology worth HUF 12 million, the lab opened its doors to students immediately after the opening ceremony. NMHH has provided three MacPro and three iMac 27-inch computers, three Apple Thunderbolt displays and six Adobe CS6 Master Collection creative software package and also covered all costs related to the implementation and furnishing of the facility.

Launched in 2012, the NMHH’s programme is aimed at setting up media laboratories at institutions of higher education nationwide, featuring state-of-the-art hardware and software. Besides an enhanced learning experience, students working on their papers or theses will also have access to tools used by professionals at leading media studios worldwide. Computers at the lab come with a host of software pre-installed for graphic design, video editing, web development and desktop publishing, enabling users to tackle even the most complex creative and post-processing tasks with ease. Thanks to their skills acquired at the lab, students will be able to perform under even the most difficult challenges, whether in traditional or new media, online editorial offices, radio or television production, or creative design.
